Welcome aboard! I’m Raimundo, and I’ve been connected to the sea since I was a child. I started sailing in an Optimist that I named Aviat (which means “fast” in Mallorcan). By the age of 12, I was already sanding and painting my own wooden boat. My family has always owned boats, and we spent our summers in Porto Colom on the eastern coast of Mallorca, where we were always out on the water.

I remember when I was 10, my friends and I would row across the harbor every day in my Uncle Miguel’s boat to go to the beach. Porto Colom, a very safe natural bay, was the backdrop to many of my fondest memories. I also remember the Sol, a boat that wasn’t ours at the time, always moored in front of the Hostal Porto Colom, our gathering spot. As fate would have it, 10 years ago, I had the opportunity to buy it.

Restoring the Sol has taught me a lot about traditional wooden boat construction, a craft that originated at the Jaume Cifre shipyard in Porto Colom. His son still continues the tradition, building beautiful llauts today.

I’ve owned several other boats, including a Puma 23, a Ferrer Rosselló llaut, and a Tornado sailing catamaran. Eight years ago, I bought the Arabian Horse to restore it, an exciting project that allowed me to understand the craftsmanship of one of Spain’s leading shipyards, Astilleros Belliure. My passion has always been to restore boats and then sail them.

Twenty-seven years ago, I came to Sa Ràpita with my sailing catamaran while circumnavigating Mallorca, and during that stop, I met Ana, who is now my wife and the mother of our three children. Since then, I’ve been living in Sa Ràpita, enjoying life in this beautiful and safe area for coastal sailing.

Rapita Charter was born because I was spending “too much” time restoring the boats I had for private use—the Arabian Horse and the Sol took up both my time and my budget! So, I decided to turn my passion for restoration and sailing into a profession. And that’s what Rapita Charter is all about: a family business that takes pleasure in restoring classic boats, perfect for experiencing this unique area.
